La primera edificaci\u00f3n religiosa fue inaugurada en <strong>1804<\/strong>, en la esquina sureste del actual <strong>Parque Mart\u00ed<\/strong>. Aquella estructura original, construida con <strong>guano y madera<\/strong>, fue destruida por un incendio y posteriormente reconstruida en el mismo sitio.<\/p><p>En <strong>1890<\/strong>, se erigi\u00f3 una nueva iglesia, de mayores dimensiones, en el lugar donde se ubica actualmente. Esta fue <strong>remodelada en 1913<\/strong>, momento en el que adopt\u00f3 un estilo <strong>ecl\u00e9ctico<\/strong> con la incorporaci\u00f3n de un <strong>atrio y una torre con campanario<\/strong>. Sin embargo, dicha iglesia fue demolida en <strong>1947<\/strong>, para dar paso al edificio actual.<\/p><p>La <strong>Catedral de San Eugenio de la Palma<\/strong>, tal como se conoce hoy, fue inaugurada en el a\u00f1o <strong>1951<\/strong>. Su arquitectura responde al estilo del <strong>protorracionalismo<\/strong>, con notables influencias <strong>art d\u00e9co<\/strong>. En <strong>2006<\/strong>, el templo fue elevado oficialmente a la categor\u00eda de
